In this class we were faced with a lot of challenges but they weren't impossible. The goal to even receive a letter grade you wished to earn was to set a goal to yourself and create this mindset that you can do it. I distinctly remember walking into this class and Dr Preston gave a very good first impression of himself. I liked the way how he was just raw and himself which made me think to myself English for my junior year may not be so bad. I truly appreciate the choice he gave us of an open-source learning course or a regular high school english class. This made me wonder that there isn't only one boring, old, required way to an English course. As he stepped out of the classroom and we were discussing which path we should take for the semester I really was looking forward into the open source course because I wanted to try something new and it interested me way more than just the same old way.
My old english classes were really just out of a textbook and always made us write down vocabulary words and define them. My english class last year was way too easy and once I think about it we really didn't do much and was just on our phones and he didn't care. That class compared to this class make me love this class so much more and all the learning opportunities and help you provide for us.
The day you assigned us journals I thought to myself this could somehow be a diary. I am really not one to talk about my feelings but with the journals I found it as an easy step to express myself such like the blogs. The blogs were a really innovative thing to use since many of us have social media and we can use the internet to a good use to express ourselves and not be or act like society expects us to do. I feel like my writing got better because I practiced in my journals and then used my blog to improve my writing skills even more.
I'm currently taking an AP History class and I feel like that and this class would really stress me out to the point where I would forget my assignments in this class. I would somehow always choose reading a 15 page chapter book and writing cornell notes than posting on my blog, I'd think that was more important because it was an AP class and Mrs. Hennings can be very strict. Honestly, I would even forget to do my blogs because this isn't elementary school where the teacher is always nagging at you to complete your work/homework. It is our responsibility to remind ourselves to always check the Blog and see what is due. That is where my irresponsibility and procrastination steps in and always seems to get the best of me.
I've noticed many taking advantage to use our phones and be on social media, text, play games, or even watch Netflix instead of using that time to complete your work. I should know because i've done it and not proud of it. So when Dr Preston assigns us to post a blog I complete it right at that moment instead of going home forgetting about it and have one more missing blog piled up with my other missing blog posts. I felt by doing that it gave me leverage and confidence in my writing.
Comparing myself from August to now in December I see myself as a way much more confident writer than in the beginning. I am going to set reminders, finish my work in class when the time is given, and not procrastinate in my work because in doing so I will improve and it will be worth it in the end saying to yourself "wow I accomplished that".
