A cardinal virtue is a sin so he is implying his sin is him being honest. He meant this as being ironic because he doesn’t fit in with the rest. He isn’t rich like them but they are all liers that’s why.
Gatsby is reliving the moment he met Daisy and he took her one night to make love just because he couldn’t have her and almost makes it forbidden but he soon then starts to fall in love with her to the point where he literally can’t live with out her.
